The Dressage descipline is deeply rooted in European history and takes many of it's movements from ancient calvary exercises. Riders are classified as "team point riders" or "individual riders." Team riders are selected through try-outs held in the fall semester, while any rider can ride with the UCF Equestrian Team as an individual. To be a member of the Dressage Team, as an individual or team rider, all riders must first be a member of the UCF Equestrian Club.

The UCF Dressage Team competes on the Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) circuit. We are Region J and compete with colleges and universities from Florida and host our own show during the Spring Semester.

What is the IDA?

IDA Stands for Intercollegiate Dressage Association. The mission of IDA is to introduce students to the equestrian discipline of dressage and to foster continued development, understanding and appreciation in the art of dressage through organized student competitions and educational opportunities. IDA promotes competition for riders of all skill levels, who compete individually and as teams at regional and national levels. The Association was founded on the principle that any college student should be able to participate in horse shows, regardless of their financial status or riding level. The IDA, like the IHSA, attempts to eliminate the expenses of students owning horses and allows more students to compete. Students ride horses that are furnished by the host college and chosen by drawing lots. The use of personal tack is not allowed and a 10 minute warm up period is permitted before riding a test.. Classes range from Intro for first year students to the First Level for the more experienced riders.

To qualify to compete on the IDA circuit. riders must meet the following requirements

  • Full time enrolled UCF Student
  • Dues paying club member
  • Dues paying IDA member
